PAS officers visit PDMA Headquarters for disaster management training

 

Quetta, Officers of the 48th batch of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan headquarters in Quetta as part of a special training program. The purpose of the study tour was to familiarize trainee Assistant Commissioners with disaster management systems, emergency response mechanisms, and operational procedures in the province.

 

The visit was organized at the request of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), Government of Balochistan. The delegation was welcomed by Director Rescue/Planning & Coordination, Naveed Ahmed, representing the Relief Commissioner and Director General PDMA. He chaired an interactive briefing session attended by Deputy Director Rescue Asghar Ali Jamali, Deputy Director Disaster Risk Management Suleman Aziz, SDO Balach Baloch, Manager Operations Muhammad Fahad, and other officials.

 

During the session, Deputy Director Rescue Asghar Ali Jamali provided a detailed overview of PDMA’s mandate, responsibilities, and operational mechanisms. He explained the authority’s role in preparedness before disasters, immediate response during emergencies, coordination in rescue operations, and relief activities.

 

The briefing highlighted PDMA’s emergency measures during floods, earthquakes, droughts, heatwaves, and other natural disasters. Officers were informed about inter-agency coordination, rescue and relief operations, and the authority’s role in ensuring timely assistance to affected communities.

 

The PAS officers showed keen interest in PDMA’s administrative structure, coordination with various departments, and practical experiences gained during recent emergencies in Balochistan.

 

Later, the delegation visited PDMA’s machinery yard, inspecting heavy equipment, rescue vehicles, ambulances, and specialized emergency tools. Officials explained that these resources are kept ready for deployment across remote and difficult terrains of the province.

 

A key part of the training was the visit to the Provincial Emergency Operation Center (PEOC), where officers were briefed on the central command and control system, monitoring of emergency alerts, issuance of early warnings, and dissemination of timely information to district administrations and the public.

 

The PAS officers appreciated PDMA Balochistan’s efforts in disaster management, emergency response, and humanitarian assistance. The visit concluded with a group photograph and a reaffirmation of strengthening institutional cooperation and coordination among government departments.
