Inspection conducted on Kachhi Canal Phase‑I; project nears completion

Naseerabad, In line with the directives of Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Provincial Secretary Sohail‑ur‑Rehman Baloch, and Chief Engineer Canals Qurban Ali Jatoi, Superintending Engineer Irrigation Circle Naseerabad, Mudassir Zafar Khosa, accompanied by Executive Engineer Kachhi Canal, Elahi Bakhsh Gajani, carried out a detailed inspection of Kachhi Canal Phase‑I.

According to WAPDA officials, the project has reached completion, and the section of the canal from RD 1183 to RD 1319 is to be formally handed over to the Balochistan Irrigation Department. During the inspection, certain deficiencies were identified, and authorities were directed to complete the repair work immediately and to the highest standards. WAPDA’s Superintending Engineer Waheed Hussain Sheikh briefed the delegation on the construction stages and progress of the project.

Mudassir Zafar Khosa described Kachhi Canal Phase‑I as a vital project for Balochistan’s underdeveloped and agricultural regions. He said that the regular supply of water through the canal would help irrigate hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland, turning barren lands into cultivable areas. He emphasized that the Irrigation Department is taking practical steps to improve the canal system and ensure fair distribution of water in the larger interest of farmers.

He added that the provision of canal water would ease farmers’ reliance on tube wells and other costly irrigation methods, while boosting production of wheat, sugarcane, cotton, vegetables, and other crops. The project is expected to increase farmers’ incomes, generate new employment opportunities, and stimulate local markets, businesses, livestock, and other economic activities.

Officials noted that Kachhi Canal has the potential to lay the foundation for an agricultural revolution in Balochistan, contributing to food security and strengthening the rural economy.
