Gwadar Port Chairman meets DG Customs Transit Trade; focus on streamlining cargo movement to Iran

Karachi/Gwadar, Chairman Gwadar Port, Nural Haq Baloch, met Director General Customs Transit Trade, Irfan Javed, to discuss measures for facilitating and organizing transit trade and cargo movement from Gwadar Port to Iran via the Gubd/Remdan border crossing.

The meeting reviewed issues related to cargo transportation, customs clearance, and trade procedures, with proposals considered for establishing a smooth and efficient trade corridor between Gwadar Port and Iran. The Chairman emphasized the need to further activate transit trade and border commerce through Gwadar, highlighting that facilitation, transparency, and effective coordination can significantly boost business activity.

It was noted that despite clear instructions from the Ministry of Commerce and FBR, certain operational challenges persist in border trade and related activities. The participants agreed that coordinated consultation and practical steps are required to resolve these issues.

A major consultative meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, bringing together customs officials, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Gwadar Port authorities, traders linked to the Gubd/Remdan border, and other stakeholders. The session will examine existing problems in detail and finalize practical measures and a future roadmap.

The meeting was described as an important step toward enhancing cargo transport, transit trade, and cross‑border commercial activity between Pakistan and Iran. Improved access through Gwadar Port to Iran and other regional markets is expected to further strengthen Gwadar’s role as a regional trade gateway and promote economic activity across the region.
