QUETTA, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting and encouraging international athletes from Balochistan, stating that recognising and appreciating their achievements is a collective responsibility. He said Balochistan has produced several distinguished boxers who have brought honour to both Pakistan and the province through their performances at international competitions.

The governor expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of officials of the International Boxing Championship led by Pakistan Professional Boxing Association President Abdul Hameed Sarparah. The delegation also included national boxer Musa Hazara, Abdul Aziz Khilji, and Khuda Bakhsh Lashari.

Speaking on the occasion, Mandokhail highlighted Balochistan’s rich contribution to the sport of boxing, noting that many renowned boxers from the province had earned national and international recognition and secured prestigious accolades for the country. He said Quetta had successfully hosted the First Pakistan International Boxing Championship last year, showcasing its organisational capabilities at both national and international levels. The event, he added, played a significant role in promoting sports activities in Balochistan and projecting a positive image of the province.

The governor stressed that the promotion of boxing and other sports requires effective collaboration among relevant government institutions, sports organisations and the private sector. He underlined the need to focus on the training and development of young athletes, provision of modern sporting facilities, improvement in coaching standards and expansion of opportunities for participation in national and international competitions.

Expressing optimism about the future of sports in the province, Mandokhail said Quetta and other parts of Balochistan should continue hosting major sporting events, enabling local athletes to demonstrate their talent while benefiting from interaction with international competitors. He observed that sports not only instil discipline, tolerance, self-confidence and dedication among young people but also contribute significantly to constructive social engagement and societal harmony.

The governor emphasised the importance of providing equal opportunities to talented youth across Balochistan, enabling them to refine their abilities and prepare for representing Pakistan at the international level.

During the meeting, the delegation invited the governor to attend the final round of the International Boxing Championship scheduled for October 30 and 31. Accepting the invitation, Mandokhail is expected to participate as the chief guest in the championship’s concluding ceremony on October 31, where he will encourage and honour boxers who deliver outstanding performances during the event.

The International Boxing Championship is expected to further strengthen the sporting culture in Balochistan while providing a valuable platform for emerging athletes to gain exposure and compete at a higher level.
