Governor Balochistan calls for urgent action on Quetta’s civic challenges

Quetta, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has stressed the need for immediate and coordinated measures to address the growing challenges in Quetta and its suburbs, including street crime, unannounced load-shedding, water shortages, poor sanitation, and the rising threat of drug abuse.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan led by central leader Allama Maqsood Ali Domki, the Governor directed the Commissioner and Administrator Metropolitan Corporation to conduct regular visits to suburban areas of Quetta. He emphasized that good governance begins with listening to the voices of ordinary citizens, adding that Quetta is not just a city but the administrative, political, educational, and commercial hub of the province. Resolving Quetta’s problems, he noted, is equivalent to solving half of Balochistan’s issues.

Governor Jaffar Mandokhail highlighted the urgent need to curb the rising incidents of street crime, stressing that public safety is the foremost responsibility of the government and negligence in protecting lives and property will not be tolerated. On the issue of water scarcity, he underscored that access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity of life, urging officials to ensure supply to every household without unnecessary hurdles.

He also expressed concern over unannounced power outages, which have caused frustration among citizens, traders, students, and small businesses. He directed relevant authorities to provide timely information whenever restoration work or unavoidable shutdowns occur.

On sanitation, the Governor remarked that a clean city reflects responsible governance and a healthy society, noting the direct link between environmental cleanliness, public health, and quality of urban life. He further warned about the growing menace of drug addiction among youth, describing it as a serious threat that weakens society. He called for a comprehensive strategy to protect the younger generation from this danger.

Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail concluded by saying that restoring Quetta’s historic beauty, cleanliness, peace, and dignity is not merely an administrative duty but a collective mission requiring cooperation from government institutions, civil society, the business community, and responsible citizens alike.
