Finance Minister Nosherwani chairs BRA meeting; tax net expansion and transparency stressed
Provincial Minister for Finance and Minerals Mir Shoaib Nosherwani chaired an important meeting to review the performance of the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA), evaluate progress on tax collection, and discuss measures to broaden the provincial revenue base. The meeting was attended by Finance Secretary Jehangir Kakar, BRA Chairman Abdullah Khan, and other senior officials.
The participants reviewed decisions taken in the previous session and assessed the progress achieved. It was decided that audits of companies, hotels, hospitals, and other sectors would be accelerated and made more transparent to ensure accountability and enhance provincial revenue.
Officials informed the meeting that a BRA office has been made operational in Gwadar, which will improve monitoring of tax matters and facilitate services for taxpayers in Gwadar and surrounding areas. Furthermore, it was agreed to bring jewelers, bakeries, property dealers, car showrooms, water supply companies, and other business sectors under the BRA’s tax net. Measures will also be intensified to include YouTubers and online businesses within the legal framework of taxation.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Nosherwani emphasized that expanding the tax net, ensuring transparency in tax collection, and documenting business activities are among the government’s top priorities. He directed officials to ensure effective enforcement of tax laws while also providing maximum facilitation to taxpayers. He added that incorporating modern business trends and the digital economy into the tax system is a pressing need, and all measures must be taken in line with legal requirements and principles of transparency.
The meeting also discussed various proposals to further improve BRA’s performance and increase provincial income, underscoring the government’s commitment to building a fair, transparent, and efficient taxation system in Balochistan.
