Federal, Balochistan governments pledge closer coordination to strengthen security

QUETTA: July 25: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Quetta on Saturday and met Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti before co-chairing a high-level meeting on the province’s law and order situation.

The chief minister briefed the meeting on the overall security situation in the province, ongoing measures and the government’s future strategy.

The meeting decided to further enhance the professional capacity of the Counter-Terrorism Force and the police in Balochistan. It also agreed to expedite progress on decisions aimed at strengthening the provincial police force.

Mr Naqvi assured the meeting of the Ministry of Interior’s full support in providing the required resources, saying the federal government would continue extending every possible assistance to ensure lasting peace in Balochistan.

He said immediate and effective implementation of the peace restoration plan was the need of the hour and stressed that the experience and advice of former Balochistan police chiefs should be utilised in formulating the province’s security strategy.

The interior minister said modern technology, improved intelligence and a coordinated strategy were essential in the fight against terrorism, adding that the federal and provincial governments were moving forward with complete unity and coordination to establish peace.

Chief Minister Bugti said the government would remain one step ahead on every front in the fight against terrorism and would not bow to any pressure. He said the writ of the state would be enforced at all costs and no space would be left for terrorists.

He said providing young people with opportunities in education, skills development, employment and other positive activities remained the government’s top priority. Promoting merit, he added, would help restore the confidence of the youth and ensure equal opportunities for their advancement.

The chief minister said peace, development and prosperity were closely linked, and the government would ensure simultaneous progress on both fronts. He added that, with the support of the federal government, implementation of security measures and development projects in Balochistan would be accelerated.
