CWIS Workshop in Quetta highlights PDMA’s role in sanitation and WASH services
A Stakeholders’ Consultative and Dissemination Workshop on the analysis of the Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) situation was held at a local hotel in Quetta, organized by the national NGO HOPE, which works for public service and welfare activities in Balochistan. The workshop was attended by representatives of government departments, humanitarian partners, NGOs, and civil society.
On the instructions of Relief Commissioner/Director General PDMA Balochistan, Jahanzaib Khan Ghorezai, Deputy Director PDMA Balochistan, Asghar Ali Jamali, represented the authority and briefed participants about PDMA’s role in providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities during emergencies. He highlighted that PDMA, as the lead agency of the WASH sectoral group, plays a vital role in ensuring water supply, drainage, sanitation, and hygiene services for affected populations during natural disasters and other emergencies.
Jamali added that PDMA’s responsibilities extend beyond emergencies, involving long-term planning and collaboration with relevant institutions to address future challenges. He noted that, under the special directives of Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Khan Bugti, PDMA assisted the Local Government and Quetta Metropolitan Corporation in improving sanitation in the city by deploying manpower and machinery for waste collection, transfer, and proper disposal.
He further informed that PDMA is also working with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) on long-term WASH sector projects and policies to make water, sanitation, and hygiene systems more effective and sustainable across the province.
At the conclusion of the workshop, HOPE’s Chief Executive Officer praised PDMA’s role in public service, particularly its cooperation with NGOs during emergencies, and expressed commitment to continue partnership in the future. The workshop emphasized that collaboration between government, humanitarian organizations, NGOs, and civil society is essential to ensure a clean, healthy, and dignified environment in Quetta and across Balochistan, along with improved delivery of basic facilities to citizens.
