Commissioner Quetta orders digitalization of waste management, launch of awareness campaign

Quetta, Commissioner Quetta Division Zeeshan Lashari chaired a review meeting on solid waste management and sanitation in the city, focusing on garbage disposal, door‑to‑door waste collection, drainage cleaning, and resolution of public complaints.

The meeting was attended by Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Bashir Ahmed Barech, CEO Safa Quetta Dil Nawaz Shah, Deputy Commissioners Munir Ahmed and Mehrullah Badini, Divisional Director Development Zahoor Ahmed, and officials from Metropolitan Corporation and Safa Quetta.

Officials briefed the Commissioner that Safa Quetta currently collects and disposes of around 14 tons of waste daily, while the city generates approximately 16 tons. Two dumping sites have been established at Eastern Bypass and Kachlak. Sanitation operations are ongoing across all 58 wards, including sweeping, garbage removal, and drainage cleaning.

Over the past two years, more than 735,000 tons of waste have been transported to dumping yards, while 123 old dumping points have been cleared. Safa Quetta has also employed 1,829 local workers to strengthen the system and conducted over 100 awareness sessions in schools and colleges to promote cleanliness.

Currently, 28 schemes provide door‑to‑door waste collection, with the city divided into four zones where cleaning operations run daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A complaint management system is active, with 91 complaints resolved in September.

Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari directed officials to further improve solid waste management and sanitation, ensuring timely resolution of public complaints. He instructed the launch of a month‑long awareness campaign to inform citizens about complaint registration procedures.

He also emphasized the need to digitize billing systems for door‑to‑door waste collection and gradually digitalize Safa Quetta’s business model. “Modern technology will bring transparency, efficiency, and improved services for citizens,” he said, while directing Deputy Commissioners to monitor sanitation work in their respective areas.
