Campaign ends for Balochistan’s Local Council by‑elections; polling on August 9

The election campaign for the second phase of local council by‑elections in six districts of Balochistan concluded today, marking the final day of canvassing for 10 vacant seats.

According to the Election Act 2017, Section 182, all electioneering activities must cease 48 hours before polling. Therefore, from midnight tonight, no rallies, processions, corner meetings, or political gatherings will be permitted in the relevant constituencies.

Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan, Ali Asghar Sayal, warned that strict legal action would be taken against candidates and political parties violating the code of conduct. He urged all stakeholders to respect the deadline and ensure compliance so that the electoral process could be completed in a transparent, fair, and peaceful environment.

A total of 28 candidates are contesting these by‑elections. The constituencies collectively have 11,720 registered voters, including 6,152 men and 5,568 women. Sixteen polling stations have been established, comprising five male, five female, and six combined stations.

Security arrangements have categorized five polling stations as “highly sensitive,” nine as “sensitive,” and two as “normal.” Polling will take place on Sunday, August 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. across the designated constituencies.
