Advisor Dr. Rubaba Khan and AIG Police discuss women’s protection and rights in Balochistan
Quetta, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Women Development Department, Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, held a meeting with Additional Inspector General of Police (Gender), Israr Ahmed Umrani, to discuss women’s protection, promotion of rights, prevention of gender-based violence, and strengthening institutional support for women in Balochistan.
The meeting focused on challenges faced by women, enhancing gender sensitivity within the police system, and ensuring swift redressal of complaints through stronger institutional cooperation.
Dr. Rubaba Buledi emphasized that providing women with a safe, dignified, and enabling environment is among the top priorities of the provincial government. She noted that preventing violence, harassment, and other gender-related crimes requires effective law enforcement coupled with coordinated efforts between police and relevant institutions.
She stressed the need for institutions to move beyond reactive approaches and adopt proactive, sensitive systems that understand the needs of affected women. “Building gender sensitivity and capacity within police and related departments will strengthen women’s confidence and ensure timely access to justice,” she said.
The Advisor added that the Women Development Department will continue working with relevant institutions to promote women’s protection, legal awareness, economic independence, and fundamental rights. She underlined that creating a safe environment for women is a shared responsibility requiring effective collaboration between government bodies, law enforcement agencies, and civil society.
AIG Police (Gender) Israr Ahmed Umrani briefed the Advisor on police initiatives for women’s protection and prevention of gender-based violence. He agreed to expand cooperation with the Women Development Department, with discussions covering awareness programs, institutional linkages, and a joint roadmap for future action.
