GDA ensures daily supply of 3.5–4 Million Gallons of Water to Gwadar from Sawad Dam
Member Provincial Assembly Balochistan Hidayat‑ur‑Rehman met Director General Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Moin‑ur‑Rehman Khan at his office on Tuesday to review progress on ongoing development projects in the city. Chief Engineer GDA Haji Syed Muhammad, Chingiz Baloch, and other officials were also present.
During the meeting, the MPA was given a detailed briefing on the Old Town Rehabilitation Project, water supply and distribution system, and other civic facilities. Officials informed that development works under the rehabilitation project have entered their final stages, with several schemes already completed. The initiative aims to improve basic urban amenities in Gwadar’s historic neighborhoods and provide residents with a safer and better living environment.
On the issue of potable water, the briefing highlighted that Gwadar currently receives approximately 3.5 to 4 million gallons of water daily, primarily sourced from the Sawad Dam. Supplementary supply is occasionally drawn from Shadi Kaur Dam twice a week for limited durations. Officials clarified that this arrangement does not affect the scheduled water supply to Pasni city.
Chief Engineer GDA stressed that effective coordination among institutions, fact‑based assessments, and administrative measures are essential to address any challenges in water distribution. He noted that nearly one year has passed since the city’s water supply system was handed over to GDA, during which continuous supply, monitoring of distribution, and prioritization of public needs have been ensured despite limited resources.
MPA Hidayat‑ur‑Rehman appreciated the ongoing development initiatives, particularly the Old Town Rehabilitation Project and improvements in the water supply system. He emphasized that timely completion of projects, provision of basic civic facilities, and resolution of public issues must remain top priorities. He urged all relevant institutions to strengthen cooperation, transparency, and commitment to public service in order to make development efforts more effective for the people of Gwadar.
