Empowering Women: Balochistan Government’s Positive Steps Towards Inclusive Development
By Rukhsanda Saba
The development of women is essential for the social and economic progress of any society. In Balochistan, the provincial government has increasingly focused on creating opportunities for women through education, skills development, entrepreneurship, financial support and greater participation in economic and social activities. These initiatives reflect a broader vision of inclusive development in which women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to the province’s future.
One of the key areas of focus is women’s economic empowerment. The government is supporting women through skills-based training and initiatives designed to help them establish sustainable livelihoods. Under various programmes, women are being provided opportunities to acquire market-oriented skills and develop their own businesses. Such initiatives are particularly important in a province where geographical challenges and limited employment opportunities can restrict women’s access to formal economic activities.
The Women Development Department has also taken practical steps to strengthen women’s entrepreneurial capacity. Hundreds of women have received training in different fields, while selected beneficiaries have been supported in establishing or expanding small businesses. Financial assistance of up to Rs200,000 per beneficiary has helped women translate their skills into viable economic activities. These measures are not merely about providing financial support; they are aimed at enabling women to become economically independent and confident contributors to their families and communities.
Education remains another important pillar of women’s empowerment. The provincial government’s wider education reforms, including efforts to bring children into schools, improve access to educational facilities and expand learning opportunities, are creating a stronger foundation for girls. Better access to quality education can equip young women with the knowledge and skills required to pursue higher education, professional careers and entrepreneurship.
The government is also placing greater emphasis on women’s safety and access to public services. The introduction of dedicated police applications, including women-focused safety and helpline services, represents an effort to make institutional support more accessible. A secure environment is essential for women to participate freely in education, employment, business and public life.
Another encouraging aspect is the growing recognition of women’s role in decision-making and public affairs. Sustainable development requires women to have a voice in matters that affect their families, communities and province. Strengthening institutional mechanisms for women and creating avenues for their participation can contribute to more balanced and representative governance.
The importance of these initiatives extends beyond individual beneficiaries. When a woman acquires education, develops a professional skill or establishes a business, the benefits often reach the entire household and community. Economically empowered women are better positioned to support their families, invest in their children’s education and contribute to local economic activity.
Balochistan’s journey towards development requires the participation of all sections of society. The government’s initiatives for women demonstrate that progress cannot be sustainable without empowering half of the population. Continued investment in education, skills, entrepreneurship, safety and equal opportunities can help build a more confident, self-reliant and prosperous generation of women.
The real measure of development is not only the construction of infrastructure but also the creation of opportunities for people to realise their potential. By placing women’s empowerment within its broader development agenda, Balochistan is taking important steps towards a more inclusive and economically vibrant future.
