Balochistan Assembly approves Criminal Procedure amendment, reviews governance and public issues
Quetta, The Balochistan Assembly has approved the draft law amending the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 Balochistan. Provincial Minister for Communications and Works, Mir Saleem Khosa, presented the draft on behalf of the Home Minister. The house passed the bill in line with the recommendations of the Standing Committee on the Home Department.
The assembly also approved the Balochistan Citizen Facilitation and Governance Bill 2026, presented by Minister Saleem Khosa on behalf of the Home Minister. The bill was endorsed following the committee’s recommendations. Meanwhile, the Balochistan Cadet Colleges Amendment Bill 2026 was introduced and referred to the relevant standing committee for review.
During the session, Opposition Leader Mir Younis Aziz Zehri raised concerns over alleged corruption in Forest Department recruitments. He questioned why no committee had been formed to investigate, despite earlier announcements. Assembly Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai clarified that the delay was due to his absence abroad and assured that a committee would be constituted within two days.
Provincial Minister Noor Muhammad Dummar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking notice of his complaint and initiating strict action. Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti informed the house that three officers had already been suspended and further action was underway.
Former Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch highlighted the closure of funds for provincial language academies, urging the Chief Minister and Finance Minister to release allocations. He stressed that while road drains continue to be built, cultural and educational institutions must not be neglected.
On another point of order, MPA Maulana Hidayat‑ur‑Rehman demanded the arrest of those responsible for the murder of Asma Jatak’s father and maternal uncles in Khuzdar. He vowed to raise the issue in every assembly session. Provincial Minister Ali Madad Jatak echoed the demand, insisting that regardless of status—be it Sardar or Nawab—the real perpetrators must be brought to justice.
The session was adjourned until Friday, October 9, at 3 pm.
