Commissioner Quetta reviews BISP performance; emphasis on transparency, expanded registration, and eupport for vulnerable families
Commissioner Quetta Division Zeeshan Lashari chaired a detailed briefing on the performance and ongoing initiatives of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in the division.
During the session, Director General BISP Dr. Jalal Faiz briefed the Commissioner on financial assistance being provided to deserving families, registration and survey processes, payment mechanisms, and measures taken to ensure transparency in the programme. He informed that under BISP, multiple projects including the Kafalat Programme, Waseela‑e‑Taleem, and Nashonuma Programme are being implemented across Quetta Division.
Dr. Faiz highlighted that two Dynamic Registry Centres (DRCs) and a mobile registration vehicle are operational in Quetta to facilitate beneficiaries. He added that approximately 200,000 children and over 200,000 women have been enrolled under the Nashonuma Programme, with digital wallets and SIMs provided to women for ease of access. He further announced that registration of new beneficiaries and women will commence tomorrow through DRCs and the mobile vehicle, ensuring inclusion of those who have not yet been registered.
Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari directed that a monthly registration plan be shared to enable effective monitoring at the level of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners. He emphasized that dynamic registration centres and mobile facilities are providing convenience to the public, while hospitals in Quetta are also extending services under the Nashonuma Programme, including treatment, nutritional support, and food supplements for women and children.
He stressed that providing financial assistance to low‑income and deserving families is a vital social responsibility, and that effective coordination, cooperation, and monitoring among institutions can ensure that the benefits of BISP reach the most vulnerable segments of society.
The meeting also discussed challenges faced by the programme, strategies to improve registration processes, and measures to enhance facilities for beneficiaries.
Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, Deputy Commissioner Quetta West Munir Ahmed Durani, Assistant Commissioner Political Quetta Division Syed Kaleemullah, and other officials attended the briefing.
