Islamabad, Chairperson of the Balochistan Commission on the Status of Women (BCSW), Kiran Baloch, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Islamic Relief to strengthen joint efforts aimed at ending child and early marriages, protecting girls’ rights, and promoting women’s empowerment in Balochistan.

Commission member Mushtaq Mengal was also present at the ceremony. Under the MoU, BCSW and Islamic Relief will enhance cooperation across multiple sectors to safeguard the rights of women and girls, ensuring better access to basic facilities and opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kiran Baloch highlighted that child marriage is a pressing social issue that negatively impacts girls’ education, health, safety, and future opportunities. She stressed that legislation alone is not sufficient; instead, awareness campaigns, parental and community involvement, institutional collaboration, and effective policy measures are essential to address the problem.

She reaffirmed that BCSW, under its constitutional and legal mandate, is committed to protecting women’s and girls’ rights, promoting gender equality, and empowering women. The partnership with Islamic Relief, she noted, will serve as a vital step toward achieving these goals.

Kiran Baloch further expressed determination to expand cooperation with government institutions, NGOs, development partners, and civil society to address challenges faced by women and girls in Balochistan. She emphasized that through joint efforts, strategies can be developed to ensure the protection of girls’ rights, continuity of their education, and opportunities for women to lead dignified and empowered lives.
