IG Balochistan issues SOP to strengthen Internal Accountability Branch

Quetta, Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir has issued a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to strengthen the Internal Accountability Branch (IAB) in line with Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s zero‑tolerance policy against corruption.

Under the new SOP, the IAB has been empowered as a decisive accountability forum. The DIG IAB will review complaints received from across the province on a daily basis, while Regional SPs will personally conduct corruption inquiries against officers of the rank of Sub‑Inspector and above, ensuring that cases are not referred back to districts to eliminate external influence. Closed complaints may be reopened if required, while investigation‑related complaints will be assigned to officers of SP rank, with oversight provided by the Central Police Office (CPO).

The SOP also includes the creation of a new post of AIG Inquiries, priority appointments to vacant positions of Regional SPs and DSPs, and granting financial and budgetary autonomy to the IAB. Intelligence from the Special Branch will also be integrated into the accountability process.

Furthermore, weekly implementation reports will be submitted to the Central Police Office, ensuring strict monitoring of departmental proceedings.

IG Muhammad Tahir emphasized that these measures are aimed at institutionalizing accountability, curbing corruption, and reinforcing transparency within the police force across Balochistan.
