Gwadar moves toward becoming seafood processing and export hub with Chinese partnership
Gwadar/Beijing, In line with the Balochistan government’s policy to boost investment, industrial growth, and strengthen the national economy, progress has been made toward transforming Gwadar into a major center for seafood processing, value addition, and exports.
President of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Jehind Hot met with Bin Bin Yang, Vice President of China’s renowned food supply chain enterprise Optimize Integration Group (OIG), to discuss opportunities in seafood processing, cold chain development, food logistics, and direct access to Chinese markets. GCCI Secretary General Khalid Saif also attended the meeting.
According to GCCI spokesperson Sajid Bin Rahim, Hot emphasized that Gwadar should be developed not only as a port but as an integrated hub for production, processing, trade, and exports. He noted that Balochistan’s vast marine resources could be harnessed through modern fish processing, freezing, cold storage, quality packaging, and refrigerated logistics to expand exports globally, particularly to China.
Hot invited Chinese investors and enterprises to explore opportunities in seafood, cold chain, food processing, and logistics sectors in Gwadar. He stressed that establishing a seafood value chain would create new opportunities for local fishermen and businesses, generate employment, and enhance Pakistan’s export potential.
The meeting also reviewed prospects for strengthening trade ties between Gwadar and China, with a focus on private sector collaboration and new investment projects.
