Governor Balochistan Chairs Senate meeting of LUWMS, reviews progress as scores leap from 41% to 85.32%
Quetta, Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail presided over the 9th Senate meeting of Lasbela University of Water and Marine Sciences, reviewing the institution’s remarkable achievements, academic and research activities, administrative affairs, and future development plans.
In his address, the Governor praised the university’s extraordinary progress, noting that within a short span the institution had raised its ranking and scoring from 41 percent to 85.32 percent and achieved savings of 86 million rupees in a single year. He lauded Vice Chancellor Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen and his team for their visionary leadership, merit-based governance, financial transparency, and institutional discipline, which transformed limited resources into significant milestones.
Governor Mandokhail highlighted that the university’s 177 research publications and the graduation of 5,000 students since its inception represent a proud national service. He emphasized that these graduates will play a vital role in the development of marine resources, environment, livestock, water management, and related sectors in Balochistan and Pakistan.
He further stated that the university’s strategic location gives it immense potential to become a leading academic hub for blue economy, marine sciences, fisheries, biodiversity, coastal and water management. He urged the institution to align its academic priorities with the province’s agricultural and water resource needs, equipping youth with modern scientific and technical skills.
The Governor stressed that global economies now thrive on knowledge, research, technology, artificial intelligence, and human capital, and Balochistan’s public sector universities must adapt to this change so that youth become job creators rather than job seekers. He also emphasized linking research with practical solutions for industries, agriculture, fisheries, environment, and the local economy, rather than restricting it to academic papers.
The Senate meeting, attended by Justice Sardar Ahmed Halimi, Provincial Minister for P&D Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Secretary Higher Education Hashim Khan Ghilzai, Parliamentary Secretary Zareen Magsi, Principal Secretary to Governor Abdul Nasir Dotani, HEC representative Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazai, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Elahi Bakhsh, Deputy Secretary Finance, Registrar Dr. Balach Baloch, and other members, concluded with important decisions based on collective recommendations and consultations.
