Jamaat-e-Islami announces shutter-down strike on September 3

Quetta, Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a nationwide shutter-down strike on September 3, expanding its ongoing protest campaign against petroleum levy, insecurity, border closures, highway blockades, rising terrorism, and unemployment.

Speaking at a press conference at Quetta Press Club, Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan General Secretary Murtaza Khan Kakar, accompanied by Deputy Emir Maulana Muhammad Arif Dummar, Media Incharge Abdul Wali Khan Shakir, and Quetta District Emir Abdul Naeem Rind, said that the party has been staging protest sit-ins across the country since August 16. Demonstrations have already been held in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta.

Murtaza Khan Kakar said that the September 3 strike aims to intensify pressure on the government, which he accused of neglecting the worsening situation in Balochistan. He highlighted that border closures have rendered thousands jobless, highways have become unsafe for travel, and the government continues to burden citizens with repeated increases in petroleum levy.

He emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently raised its voice against injustices, terrorism, and poor governance, both in parliament and through peaceful, constitutional, and democratic means. He recalled last year’s long march from Quetta to Islamabad as part of the party’s struggle to secure public rights and resolve pressing issues.

Murtaza Khan Kakar added that the party is actively engaging traders, political parties, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the September 3 strike. He reiterated that the protest will remain peaceful and will continue until the party’s demands are met.
