Chairman BRA stresses merit, digitalization and reforms to strengthen Balochistan’s revenue system
Chairman of the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) Abdullah Khan Noorzai has said that under the vision of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the authority is undergoing reforms based on merit, transparency, and digitalization, which will enable it to play a decisive role in enhancing provincial revenue, ensuring economic stability, and supporting development initiatives.
Abdullah Khan Noorzai highlighted that the recent recruitment process was conducted entirely on merit, with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) overseeing written examinations. Out of 468 candidates, 72 qualified for interviews, and 21 were selected purely on merit. Nineteen officers have already joined, receiving appointment letters directly from the Chief Minister, while two opted not to take up their posts.
He explained that the newly appointed officers include specialists in economics, statistics, law, information technology, and related fields, whose expertise will strengthen BRA’s professional capacity and modernize tax collection systems. Positions such as inspectors, tax auditors, surveyors, and IT officers were filled transparently, reflecting the government’s policy of offering public sector jobs only to qualified candidates through fair procedures.
Abdullah Khan Noorzai praised the Chief Minister’s initiative of holding a certificate distribution ceremony to encourage merit-based recruits, describing it as a clear demonstration of the government’s trust in talented youth. He expressed confidence that the new officers will contribute significantly to Balochistan’s progress and prosperity through their skills and responsible service.
Emphasizing the importance of taxation, Noorzai said: “Tax is the foundation of any economic system. Improved tax collection ensures fair distribution of resources, greater funding for public welfare projects, and stronger development activities.” He added that BRA is committed to expanding the tax net, improving taxpayer services, and making the revenue system more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly.
He further noted that reforms within BRA prioritize good governance, merit-based recruitment, and digitalization, with special focus on technology integration, capacity-building of human resources, and transparency in tax administration.
Acknowledging the support of CM Sarfraz Bugti, Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, and the Finance Secretary, Abdullah Khan Noorzai said their guidance has accelerated the reform process. He reaffirmed that through these measures, BRA will soon emerge as a modern, effective, and model revenue authority, laying the foundation for better facilities, greater development opportunities, and sustainable economic prosperity for the people of Balochistan.
