Judicial Inquiry Commission begins proceedings on Mangi Dam terror attack
The Judicial Inquiry Commission, constituted by the Balochistan government to investigate the terrorist attack at Mangi Dam pumping station in Ziarat that claimed the lives of police personnel, commenced proceedings in open court today under the chairmanship of Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana.
During the session, the Registrar/Secretary of the Commission read out the Terms of Reference (TORs) issued by the provincial government and confirmed compliance with the Commission’s earlier order dated August 15, 2026. It was reported that a public notice dated August 17, 2026 had already been published in Urdu and English newspapers and circulated to all relevant institutions.
The Commission directed that the public notice be republished widely to ensure maximum public awareness. The Advocate General Balochistan and Prosecutor General Balochistan were instructed to submit concise statements along with complete records regarding the TORs before or on the next date of hearing.
Meanwhile, the Additional Attorney General sought time to consult higher authorities, which the Commission granted.
The Commission adjourned proceedings until Friday, August 28, 2026, for the submission of statements and records. The inquiry aims to determine responsibility for the incident, review security lapses, and recommend measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
